Good Little Update 10 Oct 2011

image

Every time you buy sausages from the Good Little Company, you really are helping people in the developing world to lift themselves out of poverty.

Last year, we told you a story about the family of Kesten Mukango in Phalombe, Malawi, and how they were being supported by Christian Aid with tools, seeds and advice so that they could leave behind their daily battle with hunger and grow enough food to sell at the market.

We also told you about a new irrigation system that had been put in place, which channelled mountain water down from the source to the fields, where Kesten and his neighbours were given help to grow a variety of crops.

Our friends at *Christian Aid *recently went to visit the family and check on their progress, and were overjoyed to see that the Mukangos are continuing to thrive.

Using the money earned from his crops, Kesten has built a brick home and his children are still in school and doing well.

It’s incredible to think that just a decade ago, Kesten had to travel across the country to work on tea plantations for a pittance, while his family suffered from severe hunger back home.

In fact, 56 families in Phalombe are now able to grow crops thanks to the irrigation scheme. This means that they have enough produce to sell and invest in other activities such as livestock rearing. This diversifies income and means they have something to fall back on in the event of a bad harvest due to unpredictable weather such as droughts and floods.

As a customer of the Good Little Company, you have done so much to help people like Kesten and his family. You have enabled Christian Aid to buy seeds for people who tackle hunger everyday, allowing them to grow the food they need to survive and thrive.

With your continued backing, we can help lift even more people out of bitter poverty and hunger– so keep buying our delicious sausages! Thank you!
